sharpening
The Tinkerers Sharpening team is made up of Jürgen, apprenticed toolmaker with Bosch, Nürnberg, and Judith, PhiBetaKappa graduate of the University of Washington, Seattle. We've had lots of fun since 1976, interacting with people who love to garden and cook and treasure their tools. We have maintained thousands of tools, from the Queen Charlotte Islands in B.C. Canada south through the Western States to Baja, Mexico, as well as in Nürnberg, Germany.

If you're planning to stay at our B&Bs, we invite you to bring your treasured garden tools, scissors, and knives, to be professionally sharpened. We have a set fee for each tool.

Would you like to participate and learn some good tips for how to keep your tools sharp?
If so, we offer 2 day workshops at our B&Bs. (click on bed and breakfast which takes you to www.bbcanada.com/133.html)
These workshops begin with an afternoon at our mobile workshop where we disassemble, analyze, and begin to learn the almost lost art of tool sharpening. Please bring only quality, functioning garden tools, scissors and knives! From the decks at the Springwater Lodge, just down the street, we enjoy the sunset as we eat dinner (not included in workshop fee). Our evening discussions focus on relevant scientific and folkloric information about tool sharpening and the history of tool making. Mornings begin with breakfast on our decks. After breakfast we gather together again at our mobile workshop and learn more about how to keep tools in tiptop shape. We take a break for a potluck lunch and aim to have all our sharpened tools ready to take home by 5PM. Because we have a minimum group size of 4 participants (maximum 7), we recommend that friends get in touch with one another and then call us to make final arrangements.
